Every document is expired, I haven’t used it regularly in around seven months, and until today it hadn’t been turned on for six weeks

If you’ve got variable valve timing, that uses oil pressure to actuate and you’ll want to not let the oil drain interval go overly long.

I saw a video about clogged VVT pumps a few weeks ago and thought about the Kia... I'm gonna get it serviced next week, or so I told myself. Its just kinda hard to think about the car while having online clases and oike everything else except the car in my mind

I don’t know your situation, but oil changes are a good thing to do yourself because it gives you a chance to inspect things on a regular basis. I service my fleet diligently at 5,000-mile intervals; 10,000-km intervals would not be excessive as long as you don’t go more than 9 months or so between changes. If you have to pay, I would recommend looking for a get-you-in-the-door deal at the deal ership because those quickie oil change places will tear up all of the hands-on places when they rip open the air box and other things because they are likely moronic apes . Anyhow, there’s my $0.02 and I’m going to let you have it at no charge because Oppo.

Well, I must say, ever since people started using zoom for everything I struggle to find any useful task for it. Plus, since the insurance is expired, and the smog, and the road tax, and everything is out of order when I need a car I use my sister’s or my mom’s so...

Sounds like you're hinting that perhaps the car has no place in your life soon?

The dealer’s pretty cheap, but they seem to be rather bad at the more precision focused tasks like alignment. I’m thinking that when the car turns five I’m gonna take it to a performance car specialist to check the transmission fluid and the diff oil... otherwise the regular service at the dealer isn’t that bad . I could do the oil myself, but I’d need to buy a whole lot of kit I don’t really want to buy.... like a couple of jack stands, the tools, etc... plus I’d need to personally dispose of the used oil, which would require that I go to a special facility in like the edge of town and... I don’t think there’s any benefits to it because the labor costs for the oil change at the dealer or a fancy shop are pretty low.

In the short term, it’s pretty much useless. But when the world goes back to normal, I’ll need it on a daily basis once again. However, if I still live here by the time I need to get another car, I’m pretty certain it won’t be a performance car with low profile tires and bad ground clearance. It’s a very heavy burden given the road quality here; specially in industrial estates where I might have to work in the future if I want to be in the field I study.

I’ve been thinking about getting a small SUV like a RAV4 PHEV. But that’s a long times away.

Our local Walmart lets you drop containers of oil in a designated spot outside the garage door.

I used to take my WRX to the dealer. They screwed it up and destroyed the engine. Now I don’t trust them.

I should probably check that out over here... the government says there are  only eight places that are allowed to dispose of automotive oil, but I suppose those are volume providers for shops and other businesses, not for consumers like myself.

I should probably educate myself more on the matter.

That’s the trick - you aren’t “disposing” of the oil, you are giving it to them so they can add it to their disposal tank.

I’ve paid for some one else to do an oil change on my own car once and they managed to overtorque everything imaginable, including the fragile plastic oil filter housing. Moronic apes indeed.

Seems sensible. I’d still have to figure out where to leave my car parts and also where to work on my car... my neighbors are pretty intense on not messing the aesthetics of the garage...whatever that means. I thought they would fine me when I was changing my tires from one side to another.

Good luck getting your hands on a PHEV RAV4. There's supposedly only 5,000 of them headed to the US.

Ah you see, I don’t live in the US and I’m friends with the main man behind Toyota in Mexico. So some old-fashioned corruption could do. But that would be a long term want, sadly. I don’t think changing cars right now is prudent, even though I took an internship at a factory and, um, getting there is rather hard in my low-sl ung car.

I mentioned the dealer because I figured they could handle an oil change.
